When configuring your IP Office for use with an IP Phone, there are a few prerequisites that should be checked.
1. Select the System section on the left, and then click on either the LAN1 or LAN2 tab depending on which port the IP Phone is configured to connect.
2. Select the VOIP tab and ensure the H.323 Gatekeeper option is enabled. This will configure the phone system to allow IP Phones to register.
3. Connect to your phone system using the System Status application. Click the Resources section on the left and ensure there are sufficient VCM channels on your system.
4. Ensure there are sufficient Avaya IP endpoint licenses by clicking on the + icon beside Resources and selecting Licenses. The total number of licenses available and in use will be shown.
To configure the IP Office for a new IP Phone:
1. Select the User section on the left.
2. Click on the Create a New Record icon at the top-right and select User.
3. Enter any relevant information for this user, such as name and extension number.
4. Make sure that this user has a login code set by clicking on the Telephony -> Supervisor Settings tab. This login code will be needed to log in the extension on the IP Phone. Once the user is added, the Manager program will ask if you would like to create an extension for this user.
5. Select the H.323 extension type and click OK. This will add a new H.323 or IP extension for this user.
To program your IP phone:
1. Press ‘*’ to program.
2. Enter the code ‘27238’ and push the # key. Enter the code ‘27238’ and push the # key.
3. Select ‘ADDR’ and press the Start key.
4. There are many configurable IP addresses. Depending on the network setup, it depends on what information needs to be put in. 4.1. If using DHCP, set to ‘0.0.0.0’. 4.2. Otherwise, select the particular field and press the ‘Change’ button. 4.2.1. Enter the new address using the keys on the phone. Press Start key to enter a dot. 4.2.2. Press Save to store the IP. 4.2.3. If a mistake is made, go back in add everything you need and press Save.
5. Enter phone IP.
6. Enter call server IP. Get this from your network provider or phone system provider.
7. Enter router IP. This is the default gateway. If using DHCP, this can remain at 0.0.0.0; otherwise, populate with a proper default gateway.
8. Enter subnet mask. If DHCP, this can remain at 0.0.0.0; otherwise, put in proper value.
9. Enter HTTP or HTTPS server IP. This is where the phone grabs its files or configurations from. This needs to be the same IP address as the phone system unless using a different server to retrieve these files. One of them should be populated with the address.
10. If using VLAN, populate VLAN ID.
11. Once all changes have been made, press Back button and press Exit to restart.
12. If the phone is configured correctly, the screen will pop up asking to enter the extension number that is needed for the phone. Type in extension number and press the Enter key.
13. It will prompt you for a password. Ask your phone system administration to know what the login password for your phone is.
14. If entered correctly, the phone should populate with an extension number.
